Writing Prompt
Looking back can have a dangerous impact on your future…
For Part Three of this four-part serial award, transport the reader back once more – a minute, an hour, a century, an eon – and show them causes of the effects we’ve already witnessed in Part One and Two of your tale. Remember, one character must remain present, in some way, in each and every part of your story.
Things to include in Part Three:
- A mirror.
- A conversation with a child.
- An unforeseen consequence.
Genre
Genre is open (though a hint of mystery couldn’t hurt!).
Can I Enter If I Missed Part One and Two?
Yes! Just include a separate submission for Part One and Two as well.
Word count
Up to 800 words for Part Three (the word limit will decrease for each part, so bear this in mind).
Due Date
Part 3 is due Sunday the 15th of January. There are no time zone restrictions. As long as it is Sunday somewhere then you can enter.
Prizes
First prize receives 5000 words feedback from NiTH team on a story or manuscript of your choosing.
All entries receive feedback from judges by request.
Entry Format
NEW COVER IMAGE RULES
A cover image is no longer a prerequisite, but we still love them. All cover images must be in 4:3 format landscape (not portrait). Most photo editing programs give you that option. If you’re using your phone, try the Snapseed app, it has lots of cool features as well. Another recommendation is Pixlr.
If including a cover image, ensure that you own the rights to that image or that you have permission, or that the image carries a free license. Make the filename of the image the name of your story and include a backlink to the source in the body text at the bottom of your story.
Also include:
Title
Author name
(Optional) Intro – 150 characters
