Writing Prompt

Courtship, romance, dating. Finding the one. Finding the one for tonight. Sex, love and dating has changed massively over the past decade, and like many other cultural shifts, the digital world and it’s signature totem, the smartphone, are driving this change.

For this story, you’re asked to compare and contrast modern dating against at least one other form of courtship. You may wish to chose an earlier generation, an historical time, the acts of courtship in the animal kingdom or even look at different type of dating as they happen now.

Include:

  • A non-traditional romance.
  • A compulsion, addiction or habit forming behaviour.
  • The use of a familiar item in a unique or unexpected way.

Genre

Any and all genres are welcome.

Word Count

550 words max. No minimum word count.

Due Date

Entry Format

COVER IMAGE
A cover image is no longer a prerequisite, but we still love them. All cover images must be in 4:3 format landscape (not portrait). Most photo editing programs give you that option. If you’re using your phone, try the Snapseed app, it has lots of cool features as well. Another recommendation is Pixlr.

If including a cover image, ensure that you own the rights to that image or that you have permission, or that the image carries a free license. Make the filename of the image the name of your story and include a backlink to the source in the body text at the bottom of your story.

Also include:

In the body text:

  • Title
  • Author name
  • Award name

(Optional) Intro – 150 characters
