Don’t be fooled by the name, there are no gender requirements. Monthly Competitions that are free to enter with small prizes. Sometimes Micro Fiction.
Bookers Corner
Deadline: Close to the end of each month
Monthly awards with changing themes but generally very open. Variable word counts and rules. Prizes include publication in website and possible anthology.
Chilling Tales For Dark Nights

The website is a bit of a nightmare to navigate, but they run monthly comps and turn the winners into audio plays. Word limits can vary so check the page for more info.

Mash Stories Competition
Deadline: Every Quarter (October, January, April, July).
An interesting concept that runs every quarter. Stories in 500 words or less. Winner receives $100 and all short listed stories are broadcast and voice acted on the Mash Stories podcast.
Henshaw Press
Deadline: Quarterly – June, September, December, March.
Quarterly Competition up to 2000 words with a first prize of £100, £50 second and £25 for third. £5 entry fee and an additional £5 critique if you like.
Flash 500 Contest
Deadline: Quarterly – 31st March, 30th June, 30th September and 31st December.

Bath Flash Fiction Award
Deadline: Rolling deadline every 1000 entries
The award rolls on for 1000 entries and then a winner is chosen. £1000 prize each time, £4 entry fee for members £9 for standard. 300 word limit for stories.
Drapers Guild
Deadline: Rolling award every fifteen entries
It’s a rolling competition with $100 awarded to the best out of every fifteen entries. $10 Entry fee. No word limit length but it’s implied to keep the stories short.
April 2016 Flash Fiction Contests

Any genre, Word limit – 750. Prize $300 and publication in F(r)iction magazine $10 entry fee (3 for $15). They also have short story comps.
