Writing Prompt

Write a shady flash fiction Staley about a character who is obsessed with escaping and who can’t stay in one place for more than a few days. Why do they feel as though they need to move on? How does this put them into conflict with the people around them, their loved ones, or the community? What skills have they acquired from always being on the go?

Include the lyrics to a song in your story, whether as lyrics themselves, or artfully placed in dialogue or prose.


Use the ‘picaresque’ genre as your influence for this short story contest.
