HOTEL DIASPORA AWARD
Absolutely blown away by this shortlist – Martin
Where Home Was | Lydia Trethewey
Sometimes we feel we straddle two cultures; at other times, that we fall between two stools.
Where is home? What does it mean to take a journey? In this award we are looking for deeply personal journeys about travel, migration and adventure as well as claiming and reclaiming home.
Like all our contests your story should be a work of fiction, but we want you to draw from something real and personal as your inspiration. As writers, you should close the distance between your story and what is on the page. Also include:
- A severing of a physical tie, bond, boundary, rope, cord or connection
- More money, less time. Less time, more money.
- An elixir that restores that which is missing
Any and all genres are welcome.
Up to 700 words. No minimum.
Sunday 9 April 2017. There is no time zone restrictions. As long as it is Sunday somewhere then you can enter.
You must be a backer of our Patreon award prize pool to enter. Minimum $1
First prize receives 5000 words feedback from NiTH team on a story or manuscript of your choosing.
All entries receive feedback from judges by request.
All shortlisted authors receive an equal share of our Patreon prize pool for that award.
NEW COVER IMAGE RULES
A cover image is no longer a prerequisite, but we still love them. All cover images must be in 4:3 format landscape (not portrait). Most photo editing programs give you that option. If you’re using your phone, try the Snapseed app, it has lots of cool features as well. Another recommendation is Pixlr.
If including a cover image, ensure that you own the rights to that image or that you have permission, or that the image carries a free license. Make the filename of the image the name of your story and include a backlink to the source in the body text at the bottom of your story.
(Optional) Intro – 150 characters
