If a thousand tonnes of ice collapse into the ocean, and nobody is around to hear it, does the water level still rise?
This is a call out to writers looking to engage with the emerging genre of Climate Fiction, or Cli Fi. Needle In The Hay is putting together a compilation of Cli Fi stories and we want you to be a part of it. This collaboration will address themes of climate change, innovation, human behaviour under duress, cultural change, perseverance and hope.
Not sure if it’s for you?
Here are some questions to ask yourself:
- What does the future look like?
- Who lives there, and how do they interact with one another and their environment?
- Why, despite all innovation, do we still face challenges?
- Where does opportunity lie?
Authors can submit a single story between 5-9 thousand words or multiple stories with a similar combined word count.
We’ll be running a workshop where authors can trade drafts with a small group to hone their finished product. The workshop will run from August to October 2014. To participate, send a 300 word brief to needleinthehaywritingcomp (@) gmail.com. The brief should touch one
- The plot of your story
- Themes and influences
- The major characters and their relationships to each other
Spots in the workshop are limited to ten participants. However we’ll also accept final drafts by the end of October if the workshop fills up.
