On the rise of the ‘new genre’ of Cli Fi, advocate Dan Bloom says:
IT TAKES TIME FOR THINGS TO PERCOLATE AND GERMINATE. ANY NEW GENRE OF LITERATURE TAKES TIME, TIME TO ATTRACT WRITERS, THE REAL PRACTITIONERS OF THE GENRE AND READERS AND BOOK REVIEWERS AND CRITICS, TOO. SO WHILE CLI FI SEEMED TO BLOSSOM IN THE MEDIA IN 2013 AND 2014, AND I AM SURE THE MEDIA WILL CONTINUE TO REPORT ON THE GENRE’S RISE AS TIME GOES BY, THE REAL HEAVY LIFTING, THE REAL WRITING OF POWERFUL CLI FI NOVELS WITH A MORAL BASE REGARDING THE URGENCY OF THE CLIMATE CHANGE BATTLE AND A SWEEPING APPEAL TO READERS’ EMOTIONS, THIS WILL TAKE TIME. YEARS. TEN, 20, 30, 40 YEARS.
At the rate things are going, we could probably do with some good Climate Fiction right now.
Your mission, should you chose to accept it, is to write a short piece dealing with climate change and it’s effects to characters, their relationships, and ways of life.
Also, you need to include a portrait in your story. More details below
